How Much Does Radon Mitigation Cost in Regina?
It's the first question most Regina homeowners ask after getting a high radon test back. And it's a fair one.
The short answer: a typical radon mitigation system in Regina runs between $2,500 and $3,500. Most installs land right around that range. Here's what goes into that number, what can push it higher, and — importantly — what programs exist in Saskatchewan to help offset the cost.
What's Included in a Radon Mitigation Install
A standard sub-slab depressurization system includes:
Assessment of your home's foundation type and slab
Drilling a suction hole through the concrete floor
Installing the pipe routing from below the slab to the exterior
Mounting and wiring the radon fan
Testing the system to confirm negative pressure is achieved below the slab
A post-installation check to verify radon levels are dropping
Labour, materials, and the fan are all included in that price. The install typically takes one day.
What Can Push the Cost Higher
Not every home is the same. A few things can add to the base cost:
Foundation type. Homes with crawl spaces require a membrane to be installed over the exposed earth before active suction can be applied. That adds time and materials.
Multiple suction points. Larger homes or homes with complex foundation layouts — additions, multiple sections, interior footings — may need more than one suction point to achieve full coverage beneath the slab.
Pipe routing complexity. If the pipe needs to run through finished walls or a long distance to reach an exterior exit point, that adds labour.
Sump pit integration. Homes with sump basins often benefit from sealing and integrating the pit into the system. It's an effective approach but adds to the scope.
In more complex cases, costs can climb above $3,500. A proper site assessment by a certified contractor is the only way to get an accurate quote for your specific home.
How Does Mitigation Cost Compare to the Alternative?
A radon mitigation system costs about the same as replacing a few windows. Evict Radon, the national radon research group, puts it exactly that way.
Lung cancer treatment is a different conversation entirely. The risk math isn't complicated — 1 in 2 Regina homes test above Health Canada's guideline. A mitigation system is a one-time cost that brings your radon levels down by 80–99% and keeps them there.
The fan runs continuously on roughly the same power as a light bulb. Ongoing operating costs are minimal.
