REGINA IS ZONE 1 - HIGHEST RISK IN CANADA

Regina homes have a radon problem. Most families don’t know it.

Radon is invisible, odourless, and the second leading cause of lung cancer in Canada. One in three Saskatchewan homes tests above the safe limit of 200 Bq/m³.

WHAT PEOPLE SAY

Trusted by Regina families

I knew the guys at BEGONE-RADON were starting up so I got them to test my basement. Luckily mine is low and didn’t need mitigation, but I’m glad I got it tested.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Every system is different, and every situation needs a customized plan. That said, Radon mitigation in Regina typically costs between $1,500 and $5,000 depending on your home's foundation type, size, and radon levels. Most Regina homeowners with a standard basement pay around $1,800–$3000 for a sub-slab depressurization system. Keep in mind qualifying homeowners can receive up to $500 back through the government radon rebate program, which Begone-Radon will walk you through.

  • You can't know without testing — radon is invisible, odourless, and tasteless. Regina is classified as a Health Canada Zone 1 city, meaning it has some of the highest natural radon concentrations in Canada. The only way to find out your home's radon level is a certified test using a professional digital monitor, not a mail-in kit.

  • We start with a free 30 minute assesment on your home. A certified Begone-Radon technician comes to your home, places the monitor in your lowest livable space, and can immediatley tell what the next steps are.

Based on what we find, one of three things happens:

    • Levels are high — we know mitigation is needed and we start planning your system right away

    • Levels are borderline — we recommend a longer follow-up test with our professional monitor to get a more precise reading before recommending next steps

    • Levels are low — we advise you to retest in about 6 months to confirm your home is consistently safe, since radon levels can fluctuate seasonally

Here's the best part: It’s fast, It’s friendly, and its FREE!

  • Health Canada's guideline is 200 Bq/m³ (becquerels per cubic metre). If your home tests above that, mitigation is recommended. The World Health Organization sets its reference level lower, at 100 Bq/m³. There is no truly "safe" level of radon — risk increases with concentration and length of exposure.

  • It's not legally required in Saskatchewan, but it's increasingly expected by buyers and their realtors. Many home inspectors now flag the absence of radon testing as a risk. Having a certified radon test, and mitigation documentation if levels were high can protect your sale and your asking price.

We work with a TON of realtors, and we want you to know if you are buying or selling, we will help you through the whole testing and mitigation process if needed.

  • Sub-slab depressurization is the most effective radon mitigation method available. A pipe is installed through the foundation floor and connected to a fan that draws radon gas from under the slab and vents it safely outside before it can enter your living space. Health Canada studies show it reduces indoor radon levels by 80–99%. Begone-Radon retests every home after installation and provides a signed clearance certificate confirming your levels.

  • Most standard home insurance policies in Saskatchewan do not cover radon mitigation because radon is considered a pre-existing environmental condition rather than sudden damage. However, the government rebate program can offset up to $500 of your mitigation costs. Check your specific policy, as some newer home warranties include radon provisions.

  • Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive gas produced by the breakdown of uranium in Saskatchewan's soil and rock. It seeps into homes through cracks in foundation walls and floors, construction joints, gaps around service pipes, and even through concrete — which is porous. Regina's geology makes this especially common, which is why Zone 1 designation exists.

  • Testing should be done in the lowest livable space of your home; typically the basement or ground floor if you have no basement. If you have a finished basement that family members regularly occupy, that's the priority. Radon concentrates at lower levels, so upper floors are generally not tested unless there are unusual circumstances.

  • Health Canada recommends retesting every two years, or any time you make significant renovations, changes to your HVAC system, or alterations to your foundation. Radon levels can change over time as soil shifts and foundation cracks develop. If you've had mitigation installed, Begone-Radon retests immediately after installation and recommends a follow-up test two years later.
